d. 12 Mar 1967, San Francisco, California
Parents:  Daniel A McLean and Carrie E

William Alexander McLean, known as "Sandy", was born in Los Angeles, but moved with his family to Belvedere, California when he was a baby in 1892.  He lived nearly his whole life on McLean Lane, first in his father, Dan's, house as a child, then in his uncle, Neil McLean's, across the street.  He and his wife,  Mary Copeland McLean, rented the house from Neil until he died, then Neil's wife sold it to them for a very reasonable price.   He was married to Mary in 1914 and they had six children together.

Sandy worked in the railroad mill where they prepared all the lumber for repairs on the cars and the different stations from 1918 until his retirement 40 years later.  Sandy was a member of the volunteer fire department started by his father, and an avid fisherman, though he never did any commercial fishing.

"My family wasn't interested in any sport but sailing.  They sailed from the time they could walk.  Sandy always had a boat and he built Scotty his first boat.  They lived in and on the water, the lot of them!" -Mary Copeland McLean
