This is a sketch created for mama in the early 70's when she and dad were into white water kayaking in Virginia and surrounding states. She loved the adventure.
So my experience with mom and dad's idea of adventure was when I nearly drowned. They took me to West Virginia on an outing with friends in their white water kayak club, put me in a kayak, after no experience, let me loose and I proptly got stuck upside down in front of a huge rock where the water was going so fast I couldn't budge. Guess it wasn't my day to die, as somehow, someway, something let loose of me, and I sprung out of the kayak gasping for air. It's amazing that I own a kayak today and enjoy kayaking-however not white water. It's the truth, I was witness to their adventures. They were "can do" folks. mom
The Belvedere-Tiburon Landmark Society still sells copies of this book. It has Madelyn's mother's history and a lot more about Belvedere and how she and her family lived.
